Biography: |
Ron (Rock) Laster Began his musical career by playing violin under the teachings of Wilbur Hatch who was musical director for the I love Lucy Show!
After 6years of violin training, he developed a feel for the guitar! Ron attended school on the Canadian boarder in Niagara Falls New York, he became Fluent in French and Graduated with high Honors in all of the Math and Sciences, but His school system did not have any guitar teachers, so he decided to teach himself and it paid off.
After graduating, Ron formed his own band "The Fabulous Fadelics"which later evolved into his band called "A Whole Lotta Thang w/Kathy Jordan "which became one of the Hottest bands in Western New York & Southern Canada.
Ron was recognized as one of the top Funk Guitarist in the Country.After a brief stint gigging with Rick James &The Stone City Band, Ron Joined The Jerry D'amico Group,which later lead to a meeting with Ann &David Weston and an audition w/The James Brown Band. James Brown recognized his talent and Ron was hired on the spot as a JB & lead rhythm guitarist behind the late great Jimmy Nolan.
While w/Brown Ron also, became backup MC to the Great Danny Ray,and later musical director. In 1984 James Browns Rhythm section along with Ron was anominated for a Grammy for best instramental of the year for a song Titled "Today".
Ron has shared stages and performed w/musical greats as BBKing, Aretha Franklin,Carolyn Franklin(wrote Ain't no way),Prince,Michael Jackson,Robert Randolph,Fred Wesley,Maceo Parker to name a few. Rons talent as one of the best in the industry, has been heard on HBO's (The Wire), David Letter Letterman, GoodMorning America,Arcenal Hall,Europeon TV, The Johnny Carson Show(A Must See).
Ron currently was intrumental in the musical set for the JB's as music director and band leader for a tribute play called"Down Around Brown Town" Written and Directed by Frit &Frat Fuller, with a performance by Dorian Harewood.
Along with traveling around the globe for 28 years with the Godfather of soul, Ron formed his awesome band the" Master Blasters" who are currently being booked and managed by CHI Entertainment.
