Biography: Al Reilly is lead guitarist of Scottish rock band Afterlife. His first interest in playing guitar came when he was fourteen and was given a guitar by his older sister’s boyfriend.

“I started playing in my bedroom, just learning some of the songs I liked at the time. I had that guitar for a few years, and I started to find my feet, learning as I went. I picked up a few classics.”

Al’s big turning point came in 1991 when he went to see Megadeth play in Glasgow. It wasn’t Dave Mustaine who provided the spark of inspiration, but the guitarist in the support act.

“I caught the opening act that night – Alice In Chains – and I was mesmerised by Jerry Cantrell. Watching him altered my whole outlook on playing. I loved his understated style and chunky riffs. I thought he was awesome”

Working in Glasgow’s guitarguitar store and touring with Logan and now Afterlife has given Al the opportunity to play with and learn from some great artists including Christophe Godin, Mark Tremonti, Myles Kennedy, Greg Koch, Peter Straub, Andy Timmons and Steve Morse.

“I love playing with these guys, it gives me the opportunity to develop my technique and continue to grow as a guitarist”
